Roadside problem

I would like to endorse George Tait’s letter (7 August) regarding the ragwort warning – I have never seen so much ragwort, especially on roadsides all over Scotland (and England too) as in the past few years.

If the verges were cut regularly, as they should be, the seeds could not be spread so easily and it is a such a pity that local councils are seemingly so short of finances to keep our verges clear of this ultimately deadly weed – apart from improving the appearance.

The appalling amount of litter on our roadsides must also be dealt with.

Unfortunately, until there is a magical solution to stop thoughtless people throwing litter from their vehicles, it just has to be removed by councils on a more regular basis – it certainly does not help attracting visitors to Scotland.
