In its rather bland public consultation document, Developing the New Local Transport Strategy – Issues for Review, Edinburgh City Council states: “We understand that the condition of roads and pavements is one of the issues that people care most about and tell us. Preparation of a Maintenance and Renewals Action Plan is high priority for 2013.”
As Edinburgh is Scotland’s pothole capital it is understandable that the council accepts more needs to be spent on repairs.
However, is the council satisfied the road materials being used are up to job given the higher volume of traffic these days and vagaries in weather? Too often one sees patchwork repairs carried out only to require redoing in six or nine months time.
