I fully accept that most Scots like myself are motivated by a desire for a fairer society. The question is: fairer to whom?
Fairness has to address the issue of low-paid working people and their contributions to society. For instance, all members of my own family come within the lower-paid working category, earning less than average pay.
Yet this category has to pay large amounts of tax and national insurance to fund the welfare and benefits of those people not in work, including those not in work by their own choice. Is this fair to low-paid, hard-working people?
