It was sad to see in the
final episode of Bob Servant, Independent on BBC4 that the eponymous Bob failed in his quest to become the new MP for Broughty Ferry.

Bob had based his campaign on his status as a local man, using the slogan, “Bob Servant, you know him and he’s OK”.

Might I suggest that a reason for Bob’s poor result might be that on the evidence of the accents of local residents in the series, Broughty Ferry is almost entirely populated by Glaswegians?

I don’t know if this is because of the casting system of BBC Scotland or the failings of the drama colleges, but it would be nice to see a drama set in other parts of Scotland where the
actors mastered the local accent.
