THE introduction of former Tory MSP Nick Johnston to the Yes campaign (News, 22 December) is to be welcomed, as his business experience may allow him to provide costings for the proposals in Scotland’s Future, which reads like the script for an oil-fired Brigadoon, where there is money for everything.
Independence also presents a golden opportunity for Scotland to issue and control its own money supply, instead of the present arrangement where private banks create the UK money supply as debt, in any quantity they may decide, and then lend it to anybody for any purpose.
This makes it impossible for government to control the economy, and was the sole cause of huge house price inflation.
If Scotland separates from the UK without grasping this, the future will be a repetition of our present economic problems, which were largely triggered by an uncontrolled banking system.
