Hate preacher Abu Hamza has been found guilty in a United States court of supporting terrorism and is expected to be jailed for life.
He cost British taxpayers millions of pounds resisting extradition, with the help of legal aid, despite having been jailed for seven years in 2006 for incitement to murder, and declaring his hatred of Britain.
He also claimed welfare benefits for himself, three wives and eight children.
It took a New York court just five weeks to convict him whereas it took Britain more than eight years to extradite him.
I trust that such delays will be curtailed in future. Putting a cap on legal aid would be a start.
