I would like to write an open letter to Alex Salmond, thanking him for all that he has done for Scotland.
I am a 72-year-old woman who has been a staunch supporter of the SNP for many years, believing my fellow Scots wanted a fairer, more just and egalitarian society – nothing to do with “nationalism”.
Sadly, the result of the referendum showed otherwise.
I think that now we should transcend boundaries and appeal to those across the UK who share the same ideas.
I would like to see a republican movement across the UK with a view to getting rid of anachronistic institutions such as the monarchy and the House of Lords.
Perhaps then we can move forward to a new, more enlightened age.
