I have come to the conclusion that it would be easier to break into Fort Knox than to see a doctor over a bank holiday weekend – or any weekend for that matter.

Having tried to doctor myself on the Sunday I phoned NHS24 early on Monday morning and spent about an hour between giving my details to the receptionist and waiting for a call from the nurse. Two hours and a 15-mile trip later I was seen by the on-call doctor.

The hunt was then on for a chemist that was open to dispense the prescription.
