Dishonoured

The New Year Honours are meant to recognise the good endeavours of British citizens and yet one sighs with resignation at the usual mixture of celebs and time servers.

The difference between our system and that which awarded Idi Amin his VC and PhD is not as great as some would like to believe, and the better democracies do not award “honours”.

As a priest in the same parish for 35 years I saw that local awards went to those who made the greatest fanfare, so I think the system is irredeemable from top to bottom and should go.
