Danish defence

What a pity Alan McKinney (Letters, 14 November) “set aside” the article, “Scotland could be better defended for less” (13 November). Again, Denmark seems to be flavour of the month when it comes to Scotland’s defence policy.

Unfortunately, however, it appears that Danish experts’ opinions about their own defence capability didn’t get a mention.

A recent report says Denmark “could definitely not defend itself”, despite having an impressive array of armaments.

It is candid realism for a senior Danish MP to say Denmark is actively committed to Nato.

Was it this kind of precognition that led to the nationalists’ U-turn on joining this alliance?

Arguably, without a Nato role it is pointless for either country to have huge conventional forces and weapons.
