Bequest request

Have your say

If someone was to very generously gift to me a priceless collection of art and furniture, I would humbly thank them and rigorously respect any conditions on the bequest.

Not so Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Parliament, which have unilaterally overturned the conditions of William Burrell’s bequest to the people of Glasgow so that pieces from the Burrell Collection can be loaned overseas (your report, 11 November).

Many of the pieces in the Burrell Collection date from a time when men died for honour and a gentleman’s word was his bond. Those were the days.
