Anne Hamilton (Letters, 11 March) is rightly delighted that lane names in Keith are in the Doric.
Accepting the Doric loosely as meaning Scots she is, however, incorrect in asking for apostrophes in that language. My childhood home in Abbeyhill has carved on the gate post “Saint Ann Bank”, and the well known pub in Duddingston nearby is “The Sheep Heid”, both Scots usages.
Even in English, “Princes Street” has no apostrophe.
