Land covering the Central Belt of Scotland as well as much of the Borders and Fife has been identified for controversial shale gas exploration, or fracking.

The Department for Energy and Climate Change published the map in its announcement on the next stage of shale gas exploration, known as fracking, which has already led to protests in the south of England.
