JIM Murphy reached out to the Scottish electorate after comfortably winning the Scottish Labour leadership vote.

The former Scottish Secretary defeated Neil Findlay and Sarah Boyack with 55.77 per cent of the overall vote before promising to address the inequality in the nation.

Believing the gap between rich and poor, not the independence debate, to be the country’s true divide, Murphy stated it would be Scottish Labour’s “mission” to end it.

Kez Dugdale beat out North Ayrshire and Arran MP Katy Clark to become Murphy’s deputy.
