Talk of the town: Queen’s helicopter entrance anticipated

NOT content with having two birthdays, palace party animal Queen Elizabeth II is also planning two garden parties in two capitals, on the same day.

On July 2, Her Majesty will not only be attending a party at Buckingham Palace, but she will also be travelling to Edinburgh via helicopter to launch Holyrood Week.

Speculation as to whether she will be making a similar entrance to the one she did at the Olympics has so far proved disappointingly unfounded.

• Nobody comes to Edinburgh for a dirty weekend – so says online hotel reservation service, hotel.info.

It surveyed two million guests and found that the Capital has the cleanest hotels in the UK, ranking 49th out of all cities across the world.

The dirtiest were in Blackpool.

• The spa at Hotel Missoni is offering upmarket guests the chance to spend £65 on air. But not just any air – this is air which promises to “eliminate toxins, leaving you looking and feeling relaxed and radiant”.

Well, they laughed at bottled water to begin with . . .

• Leigh Griffiths may have broken Hearts in the most recent derby – but this tale may give Hibs fans as much joy as that long-range Tynecastle goal.

The Scotland striker has revealed that while at Livingston, members of the under-19s squad used to stick cups of water on top of slightly ajar doors . . resulting in a soaking for the next person to enter.

And he says: “We didn’t want it to happen to the gaffer John Robertson, but you don’t always get what you want.”
