Scottish Cup Final: Meet the family where one son supports Celtic and one supports Hearts

When Hearts and Celtic contest the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park on Sunday it will be a massive occasion – and none more so than for the Wright family, given their household rivalry.

In the green-and-white corner is 13-year-old Lewis, who attends St Andrew’s High in Coatbridge, and is Celtic-daft.

Supporting the Jam Tarts is nine-year-old St Mary’s Primary pupil Daniel, who is confident goalkeeper Craig Gordon will be the man to make the difference against his former employers.

The Wright family, from Shawhead, will be split right down the middle on Sunday afternoon – with mum Lynne being a fan of the Bhoys and dad Scott a dyed-in-the-wool Jambo.

Lynne explains: “Lewis is a Celtic fan, and Daniel is a wee Jambo. I think their chosen teams come about from me and their dad, as I am a Celtic season-ticket holder and Scott is a Hearts supporter.

“Obviously because of the Covid pandemic we’ll have to watch the cup final together at home – otherwise we’d all have been there, albeit at different ends of Hampden.

“We will take separate couches in the living room to watch the game – there’ll be a Hearts end and a Celtic end.

"We’d love to have been at the match, but we’ll make the best of it and get the scarves on and flags spread out.

“As you’d expect, the boys have been winding each other up ahead of the game – but mostly it’s just friendly banter.

“Hopefully there won’t be too many tears come full-time – but obviously there can only be one winner.”
