Plane stupid

It was disappointing to read in your article, “Greens outraged as ministers fly EasyJet” (30 November), that public sector service staff in Scotland, including government ministers, could soon be travelling more by plane than by train, following a deal with EasyJet.

The train provides an excellent low-carbon means of transport and allows civil servants to work while they travel. As the Scottish Government prepares to publish its draft Procurement Reform Bill in the new year, it would be good to see its own practice providing a good example on sustainability.
