Statoil, owned by the Norwegian government, is going ahead with the largest offshore oil
development in Scottish waters for the past ten years, the £4.5 billion Mariner Field (your
report, 16 February).
Average production from the field is expected to reach 50,000 barrels of oil per day.
This development is expected to be followed by work on the nearby Bressay field which is thought to be of a similar size.
However, the Scottish Government does not receive any revenue from the oil and gas fields in our territorial waters.
I find it deplorable that the profits from these huge oil fields will be flowing to Norway.
That is money that Scotland could be using to alleviate the unfortunate plight of the sick, deprived and unemployed.
