STEUART Campbell was highly critical of the Queen’s Christmas message yet it appeared to me hers was the only message from a British religious leader which was unmistakably Christian (Letters, 27 December).
He also wrote: “She has no special knowledge of or insight into the Bible, or the Gospels.” I disagree. Compared to the Christmas sermons of others – notably some deplorable gay-bashing from the Catholic Archbishop of Westminster – it was a beacon of light.
The Archbishop of Canterbury sounded more like a CEO as he dwelt on church statistics and women bishops.
The Queen is the Church of England’s leading evangelist and may be the only member of its hierarchy who is demonstrably certain of her faith.
