Gerrard is on the cusp of leading the Ibrox side to their first top flight championship in a decade, and could clinch the trophy this weekend should Rangers beat Livingston on Wednesday, and St Mirren on Saturday, and Celtic fail to do likewise against Dundee United on Sunday.

“Leon Balogun has a quad issue so will be a doubt for tomorrow,” Gerrard said ahead of the trip to the Tony Macaroni Arena, the scene of a 0-0 draw back in August, one of only four league matches the league leaders have failed to win this season.

“The volume in the squad has helped after great recruitment in the summer,” the Gers boss added. “The biggest compliment can pay to the squad is we have coped fantastically no matter who is injured or suspended.

“Really impressed with the mentality of the players. The level of consistency and desire. From day one of pre-season, they have been spot-on and has helped us get to this point.

“I want the players to be excited and enjoy the moment but they have to keep that focus and concentration we have had since the first day of the season.”

Gerrrard also expressed sympathy with the Rangers supporters who will be unable to watch their team clinch the title in the flesh due to the ongoing coronavirus restrictions.

“I feel for our supporters that they can't be with us to enjoy this. We have tried to make them proud every time we step on the pitch,” he said.

“We have to stay focused and concentrated as nothing is done or has been achieved. We respect Livingston and they will want to react after the weekend. We have done everything we can in our preparation. We want to go and grab the opportunities in March.

“We have to handle the environment and the pitch, David (Martindale) has done a brilliant job and they play some good football. They are pressing higher and more aggressive from our previous challenge. We will have to compete and fight and hopefully our quality will take over.”
