One size fits all, suggest police

POLICE leaders have raised the possibility of creating a single sheriffdom, instead of the six which currently exist in the Scotland.

The Association of Scottish Police Superintendents said cost-saving mergers, which will see single police and fire services launched next month, should extend to the judiciary.

It also believes Scotland’s 32 local authorities and 14 health boards should be scrutinised, saying: “Further wider public sector reform is necessary.”

Chief Superintendent David O’Connor said: “It is time to ask if Scotland now needs a single sheriffdom to help deliver a better criminal justice system.”
