One patient a day self-harms
MORE than one patient a day attempts self-harm in Lothians hospitals, figures have shown.
The majority of incidents take place in psychiatric hospital the Royal Edinburgh and a similar unit at St John's in Livingston.
Last year there were 419 instances of self-harm. Up to last month there had been 59 in 2009.
The Royal Edinburgh had 244 incidents, while St John's had 126. Liberton Hospital, the Sick Kids and Stockbridge Health Centre were the only Lothian hospitals not to have any incidents in 2008.
