One hundred officers sent on hunt for Aberdeen rapist

MORE than 100 police officers have been deployed in the hunt for the rapist who sexually assaulted a young woman in Aberdeen.

The 22-year-old woman was attacked as she was walking alone near the shops on Bedford Avenue in the Powis area of the city around 7:30am on Saturday.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Dunn, who is heading the manhunt, said the victim had been left injured and traumatised by the “vicious sexual assault.” Police revealed that a dedicated team of more than 100 officers, including detectives, divisional officers and specialist support from forensic and search teams, were now involved in the investigation.

DCI Dunn said: “The investigation into this incident continues with the Bedford and Powis area remaining the main focal point.

“Officers are carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area, distributing an appeal for witnesses posters at key locations throughout the area, as well as scouring CCTV.

“I am particularly interested to speak to anyone who may have seen a man and young woman in or around the area of Bedford Avenue on Saturday morning.

“The man responsible for the assault is described as around 30 years of age, white, approximately 6ft in height, of medium build, with an unkempt appearance, as if he had been sleeping rough.

“The female victim believed the male was wearing a black hooded top, a red, white and blue scarf, and grey or black hiking boots with thick laces.”
