Officers 'used dirty tricks on gun suspect'
POLICE hunting a casino gunman have been accused in court of using dirty tricks when questioning a suspect.
Constable Craig Donaldson told the Maybury Casino shooting trial that alleged getaway driver Francis McGlone named the man who pulled the trigger – but only after tape and video recorders were switched off at the end of a formal interview session.
The policeman denied claims from defence QC Donald MacLeod that McGlone, 39, had been put under pressure and simply made something up.
The High Court in Edinburgh has heard how businessman Tony Demarco, 63, was shot as he left the city's Gala Maybury Casino in June last year.
Detectives hunting the would-be assassin detained McGlone after spotting his number plate on CCTV footage taken in the area.
"I am speechless, I really am. I don't know what to say," McGlone told detectives on tape, when told his car had been identified.
McGlone and Jamie Robertson, 25, both of Paisley, and two other men deny plotting to murder Mr Demarco. The trial continues.
