Jessica Ennis pulls out of event in Edinburgh

Jessica Ennis-Hill has pulled out of Saturday’s British Women’s League meeting in Edinburgh due to an Achilles problem.

A record crowd had been expected at Meadowbank to see the Olympic heptathlon champion open her season in three events but she has been advised to rest after a consultation with UK Athletics medical team.

Ennis-Hill, who is now likely to make her outdoor debut at the Diamond League in Oslo on 13 June, said: “Obviously I am really disappointed as I was really looking forward to getting my season underway on Saturday, but I am not going to take any risks.

“I have been told if I rest this now, I should be able to resume my competitions as soon as possible, hopefully next week.

“I am sorry to all the people in Edinburgh who planned to come and support me alongside the other athletes but hope I can compete there another time.”
