Residents: Our secret? It's teamwork

BEING named champion of champions in the Britain in Bloom contest for two years running has never been done before, so it is a fabulous achievement for Falkland.

There are many reasons for our success but the main one is the dedication of volunteers who are committed to making sure everything is done well.

However, despite what people may think, Britain in Bloom is about more than just pretty flowers. To be named champion of champions, you have to demonstrate a commitment to biodiversity and there has to be a great deal of community involvement. The whole village has to get behind it.

Among the highlights of our work this year has been the work put in at Sugar Acre, which is our educational area, teaching people about the skills needed to grow things.

Of course, one of the main reasons for our success is the village itself, which is one of the most beautiful in the country. It's hard to improve on it, really, but we always try.
