Video: US election coverage reduces four-year-old girl to tears

Waiting for Video...

THE seemingly endless political speeches, debates and grandstanding during an election race can be exasperating, and so it proved for one young American this week - even if she was too young to vote.

Abigael Evans, a four-year-old from Colorado, was in the car with her mother Elizabeth when a radio report on the US presidential race caused her to burst into tears.

They pulled over in a car park and, when asked by her mother what was wrong, Abigael said: “I’m tired of Bronco Bamma and Mitt Romney.”

The video has struck a chord with Americans who have endured months of wall-to-wall media coverage of the election campaign, and the YouTube clip has been watched over three million times and shared by almost 300,000 Facebook users.

National Public Radio, the station responsible for the report, issues an apology to Abigael on its website: “On behalf of NPR and all other news outlets, we apologize to Abigael and all the many others who probably feel like her. We must confess, the campaign’s gone on long enough for us, too. Let’s just keep telling ourselves: ‘Only a few more days, only a few more days, only a few more days,’”
