Video: Aussie PM Julia Gillard takes a tumble during Indian visit

Waiting for Video...

AUSTRALIAN Prime Minister’s history of shoes mishaps continued when she blamed her heels for a dramatic fall during a visit to the Gandhi Memorial in New Delhi.

Ms Gillard was uninjured after falling on her face on soft grass.

After the incident, Ms Gillard blamed the “logistics” of wearing high heels on official business

She said: “For men who get to wear flat shoes all day every day, if you wear a heel it can get embedded in soft grass. And then when you pull your foot out, the shoe doesn’t come – and then the rest of it is as you saw.”

It is just the latest in a series of shoe-related mishaps for Australia’s first female prime minister.

She slipped out of a high heel two months ago in Sydney and lost a shoe while being led away from Aboriginal protesters in Canberra on Australia Day in January.
