STEWIE, the world’s longest cat, has died at his home in Reno, Nevada.
The Maine Coon, full name Mymains Stewart Gilligan, was over 48 inches long. He died at home after a long battle with lymphoid cancer. He was eight years old.
Stewie’s owner, Robin Hendrickson, paid tribute to her record-breaking cat. She said: “Stewie was always very social and loved meeting new people.
“He has touched many lives and for that I am grateful.”
Stewie was a certified therapy cat, and frequently visited retirement homes in the local area. He also worked with the Nevada Humane Society. He spent his final days at home with a cockatiel that Ms Hendrickson bought to keep him company.
Stewie’s rank as longest cat was verified by Guinness World Records in August 2010. Stewie also holds the record for longest cat tail.
