A WEDDING “surprise” for a mystery Scotswoman has become one of the biggest open secrets on the internet.

The fiance of the bride-to-be has persuaded dozens of celebrities via Twitter to post congratulations messages to the couple, known only as Ross and Gill.

Ross has so far roped in celebrities including Hollywood star Courtney Cox, director Michael Moore, and chef Gordon Ramsay.

The groom, from Ireland, was hoping to surprise Gill on their wedding day in Glasgow this October.

But because Ross collected the celebrities’ pictures via Twitter, they have already been widely shared across the globe.

Actress Courtney Cox posted a picture of herself holding a sign which read “Congratulations Ross and Gill” complete with a large red love heart.

Michael Moore, who directed documentary Bowling for Columbine, posted a considerably less romantic selfie, holding a card which said: “Ross and Gill sitting in a tree B-O-N-K-I-N-G.”

Countdown’s Rachel Riley, posed in a photo alongside her board, spelling out “Ross” and “Gill” below the show’s title.

Comedian Johnny Vegas got creative, using tomato ketchup to write Ross love heart Gill on a plate.

Scots snooker star, Stephen Hendry, who recently split from his wife of 19 years, posted a picture of himself with a sign saying: “Good Luck Ross and Gill xx”

Other celebrities responded to Ross with good-natured abuse. BBC football pundit Dan Walker said: “There’s still time to get out of it Gill. He’s a numptie.”

Top Gear star James May wrote “Ross is a nob” on the front of an Emirates airline wine menu.

But it looks like Ross has become a victim of his own success. The pictures now feature on a number of prominent web sites, including scoopnest, and have been retweeted thousands of times.

Ross, who declined to give any more details about his or Gill’s identity, insisted: “It’s out in the world of Twitter but Gill doesn’t know about it, I hope, and neither do the majority of my guests, and I want to keep it that way for as long as possible.”
