Star Trek's Lt Uhuru meets President Barack Obama

President Barrack Obama has confirmed that he is an avid Star Trek fan after a picture emerged of him on social network site Twitter giving the Vulcan salute.

The picture was posted by Nichelle Nichols, who played Lt. Uhura in the original 1960s TV series, and was, according the 79-year-old actress, taken on a visit to the White House in February this year.

She posted on her Twitter account today: “A photo came to me in the mail that I’ve kept for myself for over a week, but now it’s time to share it with Trekkers everywhere,”

She also Tweeted: “Taken 2/29/12 in the Oval Office – Live Long & Prosper!”
