Police took more than an hour to usher the animal off the motorway

A COW caused major delays on the M8 this morning after being left to wander on the motorway linking Glasgow and Edinburgh.

• Police tried to move animal for more than an hour

Police made efforts to remove the cow from the J29 St James interchange but were foiled for more than an hour by the animal.

Officers eventually managed to move the cow on after contacting the local farmer.

The incident has been the source of amusement among the twitter community, with one user saying: “OK that’s enough tweets about the cow on the M8. No need to milk it.”

Another user commented: “The cow which wandered onto the M8 near Paisley this morning has been mooooved to safety. Phew!”
