Obama reluctant to change defence
BARACK Obama has asked the US defence secretary, Robert Gates, to remain in office for the beginning of his presidential term. Sources said last night that Mr Gates will remain in the post for at least a year.
Mr Obama is expected to announce the selection of Mr Gates and other members of a national security brain trust next week.
