Nurses' union chief witnesses drink damage

THE head of the country's main nursing union attended a casualty department last night to see for herself the cost of alcohol abuse.

Theresa Fyffe, director of the Royal College of Nursing, went to the accident and emergency ward at the ERI on one of its busiest nights of the week.

She wanted to see how binge drinking affected nurses on the frontline.

She said: "Increasing alcohol consumption is resulting in a more stressful time for healthcare staff."
