Nurses ward off problems

THE organisation which governs Lothians nurses and midwives has been praised by a watchdog.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council was said to have made "significant progress" in a number of areas.

The Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence said the body had done well to continue to operate in spite of many reforms.

Kathy Georges, chief executive and registrar at the NMC, said: "While we are pleased, the NMC must avoid complacency."
