Nurses given new care and respect rules
NURSES across the Lothians are to be issued with new guidelines on how to care for older people.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) will supply details on how to be more compassionate when dealing with more elderly patients.
Developed along with the NHS and charities Help the Aged and For Dementia, the guidelines have been designed to improve public confidence in nurses and make relatives of elderly people – as well as the patients themselves – more comfortable reporting poor care when it occurs.
Ruth Chauhan, the author of the Care and Respect Every Time guidance, said it was formed around feedback from ordinary people. She said: "We have listened carefully to what older people have told us."
