Nurses call for more training

COMMUNITY nurses should receive more training to recognise signs of mental health problems among children, a leading organisation has said.

The Edinburgh-based Royal College of Nurses Scotland urged ministers to place more importance on the role of nurses, who are often at the frontline of seeking help for those youngsters in need of therapy.

Fiona Bonnar, a senior charge nurse in mental health services for children and young people, said: "There is not enough access to training provided for community nurses and they are not adequately equipped, both in terms of financial and practical resources."
