Nurse in call for healthcare volunteers
YOUNGSTERS who harbour ambitions of working in healthcare should consider volunteering within NHS Lothian, a paediatric nurse has said.
Holly Fraser, 21, recently qualified from Napier University and now works at St John's Hospital in Livingston.
She began volunteering while still at school, which helped encourage her to apply for the course and gave her valuable experience.
She said: "I had thought about becoming a nurse and volunteering turned out to be a great way of gaining practical experience.
"Helping out on the children's ward at St John's convinced me to apply for the paediatric nursing course at Napier.
"Volunteering was a great experience and I got the opportunity to play and interact with the children on the ward. It gave me the confidence of working in a ward environment."
