Norway: 'Our thoughts are with the people'
External affairs secretary Fiona Hyslop was yesterday the first of about 50 people to sign a book of condolence for the families of those killed in the attacks in Norway.
The book was opened by the Norwegian Consulate in Edinburgh and officials reported a steady stream of visitors keen to express solidarity with the victims and their relatives.
Speaking before she visited, Ms Hyslop said: "In Scotland and throughout the world we have all been shocked by these horrendous atrocities in Norway.
"Our thoughts and sympathies are with the Norwegian people, and particularly the families and friends of those killed and injured as they come to terms with these appalling crimes.
"The bonds of friendship between Scotland and Norway are strong, and we can only hope that the heartfelt expressions of condolence from all over the world can be of some small comfort in Norway's time of extremity and loss."
The book of condolence will be available for members of the public to sign at any time during consulate opening hours.
Meanwhile, Scotland's two biggest football clubs are paying tribute to the victims of the massacre in Norway with a minute's silence.
Rangers paid their respects at last night's match against Swedish side Malmo.
Tonight a one-minute silence will be observed at Celtic Park before a friendly game with Wolves.
Celtic defender Thomas Rogne, who is from Norway, will lay a wreath at the side of the pitch in memory of the victims.
