Noisettes set to turn up the volume at capital's Hogmanay

CHART-topping indie band Noisettes have landed a major slot at Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations.

The three-piece rock outfit will join fellow Londoners Madness on the bill for the flagship Concert in the Gardens.

The festival favourites, who appeared at Glastonbury and T in the Park in the summer, will round off a hugely successful year after scoring hit singles with Don't Upset the Rhythm (Go Baby Go) and Never Forget You.

The appearance of the band – fronted by flamboyant singer Shingai Shoniwa – has been announced days after tickets for the 8,000-capacity show, in West Princes Street Gardens, went on sale. Drummer James Morrison and guitarist Dan Smith are both Scots.

It has also been announced that Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody and Tom Simpson and Belle and Sebastian's Richard Colburn will also be performing slots at the Hogmanay street party, alongside dance music favourite Mylo, who played the event four years ago. They have been lined up for the new DJ stage.

Steve Cardownie, the city council's festivals and events champion, said: "The high quality of this year's programme will maintain our position as the No1 venue for Hogmanay celebrations. With a fantastic range of top acts, bands and spectacular events, using stunning Edinburgh as a backdrop, there will be no better place on the planet to bring in the New Year."

Pete Irvine, creative director of Edinburgh's Hogmanay, said: "Last year we moved the street party on to a new level, and now we're taking it further.

"This year we're delighted with a great line-up that has a strong Scottish connection."
