No lifeline for the trams under Labour
SCOTTISH Labour leader Iain Gray has refused to offer a lifeline to Edinburgh's troubled trams project.
He signalled there was unlikely to be any additional funding for the project if Labour were to return to power after next year's Scottish Parliament elections.
Mr Gray told Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce yesterday that Labour would deliver a new Forth Road Bridge and reinstate the Glasgow Airport Rail Link, but he blamed the Liberal Democrat-SNP coalition running Edinburgh City Council for making a "terrible mess" of the trams project.
He said afterwards: "I'm not going to give a commitment for any additional funding and am not making any other promises about the trams.
"I want to see this project delivered, but it is up to the council to do that. If they can't deliver it they will have to explain themselves to the city."
