IT WAS a full house when great-great-great-grandmother Molly Robertson celebrated her 100th birthday – six generations of her family together.

• Six generations: Molly Robertson herself, 100; daughter Esther Jolly, right, 80; granddaughter Phyllis Thain, 62; great-grandson Alex Thain, 44; great-great-granddaughter Rachel Thain, 20; and great-great-great-grandson Logan Morrison, nine months

Joining Molly, a retired maid, were daughter Esther, 80, granddaughter Phyllis, 62, great-grandson Alex, 44, great-great-granddaughter Rachel, 20, and Logan, her great-great-great-grandson aged just nine months.

Family members flew from their homes in Canada to visit Molly at Lochbank Manor care home, Forfar, for her birthday on 10 September.

It was only the second time all six generations have gathered together.

Molly, whose favourite pastime is watching Andy Murray play tennis on television, said: “It was lovely to see my family”.

Daughter Esther added: “Mum was delighted to see all five generations around her on her birthday.”

Molly was born in Luthermuir, Aberdeenshire, where she attended school. She became a maid for a doctor in Fife, where she met her husband, Jack, a flight sergeant in the RAF. He died in 1972 aged just 61, but Molly continued to live alone, enjoying gardening, walking and visiting her sons in Canada.

Molly’s son, David, who attended the celebration, said: “The secret to my mother’s longevity is hard work and moderation.”
