Nicola Sturgeon to marry SNP colleague today
DEPUTY First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will marry her party sweetheart today.
Ms Sturgeon is to wed SNP chief executive Peter Murrell in a civil ceremony in a converted church in Glasgow's west end.
Close family will attend the ceremony at Oran Mor, a bar and restaurant complex formerly known as Kelvinside Parish Church.
This will be followed by an evening reception at the same venue with guests including friends and party members.
First Minister Alex Salmond is attending the evening reception and Cabinet colleagues including Finance Secretary John Swinney and Education Secretary Mike Russell are also expected to be present.
Mr Salmond said: "Everyone is thrilled for Nicola and Peter and looking forward to their big day. I have known them both as friends and colleagues for many years, and wish them every happiness together."
A spokeswoman for the couple said Ms Sturgeon will wear a dress from Dream Brides in her hometown of Irvine, Ayrshire, while Mr Murrell will wear a kilt.
She remained tight-lipped about the bride's dress but said it was highly unlikely to resemble a meringue.
Ms Sturgeon, who turns 40 on Monday, and Mr Murrell, 45, have been together since 2003 and live together in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire.
They announced their engagement in January.
Their spokeswoman said: "Ms Sturgeon and Mr Murrell will marry at a ceremony attended by close family members. It will be followed by an evening reception attended by family, friends and party colleagues."
Their wedding cake is being made by Scottish teacake producers Tunnock's.
