NHS staff will scale new heights for cancer tot

A GROUP of NHS 24 workers from the Lothians are to climb the UK's highest mountain to raise cash for a toddler with a rare condition.

One-year-old Sophie Atay has a form of cancer which only affects 100 people a year in the country, and her family needs to raise around 300,000 so she can get crucial treatment in the US.

Spearheaded by her aunt Elain Love, the team from the centre in South Queensferry will tackle Ben Nevis at the end of August.

It is just one of many things the family is doing to try to raise cash for the Newcastle tot.

She said: "We're organising a fundraising website and we've got a group together for the challenge.

"Anyone that wants to join up would be most welcome. We need to raise the money to save Sophie's life basically, and this hospital in New York is the only place she can get a special treatment."
