NHS Lothian out of frame for health board election trial run
NHS LOTHIAN has won a reprieve from the Scottish Government on health board elections, it has been announced.
It was one of the boards considered to be a "pilot" for the controversial elections.
However, health secretary Nicola Sturgeon has opted for NHS Fife and NHS Dumfries and Galloway to take on the trial, which will see elections take place in spring next year, with an evaluation of it two years beyond that.
Ms Sturgeon said: "This is designed to ensure that the views of local people about the NHS services they pay for can no longer be ignored."
She added that for the first time in a Scottish or UK election, 16 and 17-year-olds will be allowed to vote.
