NHS Lothian helps smokers stub out habit
A SCHEME has been devised to help more Lothians smokers to quit by next year.
NHS Lothian said its smoking cessation programmes were not only encouraging more people to sign up, but also improving its success rate.
Between January and April this year, there was a 54 per cent increase in those who managed to kick the habit, with 443 of these quitting through help from community pharmacies.
The number of smokers in the area, which is already lower than the Scottish average, has fallen from a third of people in 1999 to under 20 per cent last year.
