NHS chief praises work of food charity for homeless
A CHARITY which provides food for the homeless has won praise from the chairman of NHS Lothian.
The Cyrenians Food Depot is a useful resource for patients with mental health issues to learn skills and get involved in voluntary work, Dr Charles Winstanley said.
The health board also provides the organisation with some funding.
Following a visit to the Midlothian group, Dr Winstanley said: "This charity provides services to the homeless and has a significant volunteer base from those with mental health conditions or addictions."
He also described the relationship between the two organisations as a "viable opportunity".
He also praised a pilot project in the city which sees military veterans given advice and guidance on a range of issues from health to housing and other legal matters.
The Scottish Government chose NHS Lothian as one of the boards to trial the project, which is staffed entirely by ex-military personnel.
