NHS budget looking healthy
NHS Lothian's budget for next year will exceed the £1 billion mark for the first time.
As part of the breakdown of the country's health budget, the local health board will receive a total of 1.014bn from the Scottish Government, a 13 million hike from this year.
Holyrood said that it was committed to supplying the health service with more cash despite an overall squeeze on public spending.
Health secretary Nicola Sturgeon told the Evening News: "This is a good deal for NHS Scotland in the face of an overall cut of 500m by the United Kingdom Government and the first real-terms reduction in the Scottish budget since devolution.
"Together with the two per cent efficiency savings all boards are required to make which they keep to reinvest in frontline services, this will ensure key priorities are safeguarded."
