New IT system to take care of hospital night shift workers
AN IT product developed by an Edinburgh company could revolutionise the way night shift hospital workers operate, it has been claimed.
The Mobile Medic has been developed by ExtraMed and is currently being trialled with the East Cheshire NHS Trust. The device helps electronically prioritise patients' needs and allows doctors and nurses at night to easily see who needs what and when.
Hospital staff in Cheshire said it helped link up appropriate medics with the correct patients, improved efficiency and helped over-worked doctors slash hours.
The company is hopeful the device will be taken on by other health boards across the country.
Managing director Dr Keith Nicholson said: "It became apparent there is a need for an IT system that will help doctors and nurses working in hospitals at night to prioritise workloads."
