New sign on entering Leith
SHOPPERS, visitors and investors are set to be formally welcomed into the historic port of Leith by a new sign.
Installed through the 'I Love Leith' partnership, run by the City of Edinburgh Council, Edinburgh Trams and Business Gateway, the "Welcome to Leith" sign was due to be unveiled this morning by Lord Provost George Grubb.
The sign, along the old boundary between Edinburgh and Leith at the top of Pilrig Street, has a nautical theme to highlight Leith's strong links with the sea.
Designed by Noel Spencer of local business Sign Directory, it is part of an ongoing bid to support local businesses and to encourage investment.
Lord Provost George Grubb said: "Leith has an intriguing past and is now one of the most cosmopolitan areas of the Capital."
